Setting Goals with Your NDIS Plan

How to align your NDIS funding with your personal goals and aspirations for better outcomes.

March 18, 2026 Goals

Your NDIS plan is designed to help you achieve your personal goals. Understanding how to set and work toward these goals is key to getting the most from your funding.

Types of NDIS Goals

NDIS goals typically fall into categories:

  • Daily Living: Independence in everyday tasks
  • Social & Community: Participation and connection
  • Employment: Work-related goals and skills
  • Health & Wellbeing: Physical and mental health
  • Learning: Education and skill development

SMART Goal Framework

Use the SMART framework for effective goal setting:

Specific - What exactly do you want to achieve?

Measurable - How will you track progress?

Achievable - Is this realistic with available supports?

Relevant - Does this align with your overall aspirations?

Time-bound - What's your target date?

Aligning Supports with Goals

Each support in your plan should connect to your goals. Ask yourself:

  • Does this support help me work toward my goals?
  • Is this the most effective use of my funding?
  • Could a different support help me more?
  • Am I making progress on my goals?

Regular Goal Reviews

Set aside time to review your goals regularly. Celebrate wins, adjust timelines, and set new goals as you achieve current ones. Your NDIS plan should evolve with you.
